Product Overview

This malleable iron 45° female-threaded Elbow A197 NPT is manufactured strictly to ASTM standards. With internal threads at both ends, it enables a gentle 45-degree direction change in piping systems, reducing fluid resistance and pressure loss—making it more suitable for high-flow-rate lines or applications requiring reduced fluid impact compared to 90° Elbow A197 NPTs. Made of black heart malleable iron through high-temperature annealing, it offers excellent toughness, impact resistance and resistance to brittle fracture. Threads are precision-machined per ASME B1.20.1 for a secure, non-loosening connection. Available in black, electro-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized finishes, it is corrosion-resistant, easy to install, and widely applied in water supply & drainage, HVAC, gas, fire protection, industrial low-pressure fluid and marine piping systems.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation

Inspect the Elbow A197 NPTfor no sand holes, cracks, deformation; threads free of damage and burrs; galvanized fittings without missing plating or white rust.
Thoroughly clean pipe threads and ends, remove impurities and oil stains. PTFE tape or pipe sealant is recommended for auxiliary sealing (excessive wrapping that causes poor thread engagement is strictly prohibited).
Tighten evenly with a pipe wrench to avoid Elbow A197 NPTfracture due to unilateral force; forced installation by open flame heating is strictly forbidden.
Conduct air tightness/water pressure tests according to system pressure after installation to confirm no leakage or looseness.
Strictly prohibit over-pressure and over-temperature use, and keep away from highly corrosive media.

Maintenance

Regularly inspect joints for leakage, loose threads, surface rusting/blistering.
For outdoor/humid environments, check the galvanized layer every year and touch up with anti-rust paint if necessary.
If cracks, severe corrosion or seal failure are found, shut down and replace immediately; pressure maintenance is strictly prohibited.
