This malleable iron reducing Tee A197 NPT(130R) is manufactured to ASTM standards. It features equal main run sizes and a reduced branch (e.g., 3/4″×3/4″×1/2″), designed for 90° flow branching with simultaneous size transition, enabling compact installation without extra bushings. Made of black heart malleable iron with high-temperature annealing, it offers excellent toughness, impact resistance and crack resistance. Precision threads conform to ANSI B1.20.1 for tight connection and reliable sealing. Available in black, electro-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized finishes, it is widely used in water, gas, steam, fire protection and low-pressure industrial fluid systems, serving as a critical fitting for building, municipal, industrial and fire piping networks.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation Instructions

Inspect before installation: No blowholes, cracks, deformation, and intact threads without burrs
Thoroughly clean pipe and fitting threads to remove iron filings, dust and oil
Wind PTFE tape clockwise on male threads, or apply pipe thread sealant (avoid general sealants for potable water/food contact media)
Hand-tighten first, then evenly tighten with a pipe wrench; never use brute force or hammering to prevent cracking
Perform air/water pressure testing after installation; put into service only if no leakage is confirmed

Maintenance

Regularly check joints for leakage, thread looseness and surface corrosion
For outdoor/humid conditions, inspect and reapply anti-rust paint annually for black-finish fittings
Immediately shut down and replace if cracks, severe corrosion or persistent leakage occurs
