Galvanized Reducing Female Elbow BS EN Drawing

Malleable iron 90°reducing elbow is used to connect two pipes of different size by threaded connection, so to make the pipeline turn 90-degree for changing the fluid flow direction.

Product Overview

The Model 90° Elbow Fig 90R BSPT is a malleable iron female threaded coupling with internal threads on both ends. It is designed to join two pieces of male-threaded pipe in a straight line, providing a simple, reliable, and leak-proof connection in piping systems.

Are you looking for a robust and standard-compliant method to extend or repair pipe runs in your fire protection or industrial piping network?

The 90° Elbow Fig 90R BSPT couplings are manufactured from high-quality malleable iron, offering excellent ductility and impact resistance. They provide secure, concentric connections that maintain full bore flow and withstand high pressure and mechanical stress.

Offered in a variety of sizes from 1/2″ to 4″, these fittings are best suited for use in fire protection systems (per NFPA standards), commercial and industrial plumbing, compressed air lines, and general utility piping applications.

Product Applications

 Expected Use:

The MI-90RED reducing female 90° Elbow Fig 90R BSPT is designed for applications requiring both directional change and pipe size reduction at the same connection point. Specific applications include:

Fire Protection Systems: Connecting branch lines of different diameters to main lines in wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems, especially in space-constrained areas (meets NFPA 13 requirements).

Commercial Buildings: Water supply distribution where pipe sizes reduce at corners, HVAC systems, and plumbing in hotels, hospitals, shopping malls, and offices.

Industrial Facilities: Compressed air lines with varying diameters, cooling water circuits, and low-pressure process piping where equipment connections require size changes.

Residential Plumbing: Potable water lines and heating systems where main supply lines reduce to fixture connections at corners.

Compatibility:

Pipes: Compatible with Schedule 40 threaded steel pipe (black or galvanized) as per ASTM A53.

Fittings: Works seamlessly with other threaded fittings from the same series, such as couplings (MI-CPL), tees (MI-TEE), and unions (MI-UN).

Thread Sealants: Compatible with PTFE tape, pipe joint compound (pipe dope), or other approved thread sealants for leak-proof joints. Installation requires proper sealing on both thread sizes .

Fire Protection Valves: Can be directly connected to threaded gate valves, check valves, and alarm valves of corresponding size

Installation and Maintenance

Installation Guide:

1.Preparation: Inspect the fitting for any damage, cracks, or debris in both thread sizes. Clean threads if necessary. Verify both pipe sizes match the fitting’s inlet and outlet.

2.Apply Sealant: Apply an appropriate thread sealant (e.g., PTFE tape or pipe joint compound) to the male pipe threads of both pipes. Wrap the tape in the direction of the threads (clockwise) .

3.Initial Assembly: Hand-thread the larger pipe into the larger port of the fitting until snug. Then hand-thread the smaller pipe into the smaller port.

4.Final Tightening: Use appropriate pipe wrenches to complete the tightening. Hold the fitting body with one wrench and turn each pipe with separate wrenches. Tighten to manufacturer’s recommended torque. Note: After tightening, do not force the fitting further, as this may cause cracking at the threads .

5.Alignment: Ensure the 90° direction is correctly oriented before final tightening. The reducing design is fixed, so plan the pipe run accordingly.

Maintenance Tips:

① Inspection Cycle: Conduct quarterly visual inspections, especially in fire protection systems. Check for signs of corrosion (especially at thread joints), leakage, physical damage (cracks, deformation), or buildup of debris .

② Cleaning Method: Keep the exterior clean to allow for easy inspection. Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the surface. Do not use sharp tools that could damage the galvanized protective layer.

③ Replacement Cycle: Replace immediately if any damage or leakage is found. In fire systems, evaluate the entire system after any major fire event. While malleable iron fittings are durable, the galvanized coating may degrade over time in corrosive environments.
